SETTLED / UNSETTLED

2023: Canberra Museum and Gallery. Presented to coincide with Refugee Week, Settled / Unsettled uses the universal language of visual art to address personal and profound issues faced by Australia’s asylum seekers, refugees and migrants.

The artists included in Settled / Unsettled examine how experiences of conflict, the separation of families and cultural displacement shape the lives of new Australians, and how issues of hybrid-identity, intergenerational trauma and guilt affect first-and second-generation immigrants.

Initiated by artist Kathrin Longhurst, Settled / Unsettled hopes to encourage empathy, empower and acknowledge the important role migrants have had in the making of our nation.

In Focus: The photography of Harold Cazneaux

2023: Everglades House & Gardens. Creatively contributed to this exhibition and had an opportunity to work with my photography idol. View a stunning exhibition of 1930s photographs taken of Everglades House and Gardens by Harold Cazneaux on display within the recently restored Art Deco house.

The photographic work of Harold Cazneaux (1878–1953) is noted for its ability to capture the beauty of the natural world. He was also a celebrated photographer of architecture and interiors.

Cazneaux was commissioned by the original owners Henri and Una Van De Velde to photograph Everglades in the 1930-40s. This series of stunning photographs by Cazneaux also featured in ‘The Home’ and ‘Home Beautiful’ magazines of the times and are integral to how the house is now understood and appreciated.

Cazneaux’s photographs also provide a snapshot into the lives of the Van de Velde’s and their personal styles.

The National Trust holds a number of the original Cazneaux photographic albums in its archives, which have guided the recent conservation works to the house. The exhibition will feature original archival material alongside large format reproductions of Cazneaux’s work.

I AM ROSE

2023: Norman Lindsay Gallery. Curated the ‘I am Rose’ exhibition and contributed with my series of photography prints to telling story of Rose Lindsay.

Model. Muse. Mother. Maker. I am Rose explores the woman behind the art of Norman Lindsay, through the juxtaposition of works by contemporary female artists.

More than just the wife of famed artist Norman Lindsay, this new exhibition investigates how Rose Lindsay influenced the art world of the early 20th Century and contrasts that with a discussion of her legacy in the work of contemporary female artists.

I am Rose is a unique exploration of the woman, her influence, and the feminist legacy she left.

There will also be an interactive Audience Participatory space which will allow visitors the ability to contribute their own unique perspective and understanding of Rose.

Friday 22 September 2023 – Monday 8 January 2024.

SILK ROAD

2023: Cuppacumbalong Homestead. Curated and organized the collective SILK ROAD exhibition and contributed with my series of photography prints. The Bohemian Rendezvous, the cultural event part of my art life is bringing culture and fun in a cultural heritage environment and contributing to society by preventing isolation ad decreasing social exclusion.

Silk Road was a lovely opportunity for emerging artists, female and migrant artists to showcase their talents in a nurturing enviroment. Congratulations to Hannah Beale on her first art exhibition!

Multiculturalism represents the main theme of this group exhibition drawing from selected artists born in Australia and overseas.  The exhibition demonstrates the true sense of multiculturalism through painting, photography and printed media. Music composed ansd performed specifically for the event by a renowned classical pianist Alexander Kokic-Schmidt. Traditional didgeridoo music performed by Sivaram Narayanamoorthy, who regularly performs with the local Indigenous community as a part of their traditional activities. Puya Laghaee and Hadi Nazem with their magical traditional music, Sufi poetry performed by Mohammed Ali a respected cultural and community identity and bush poetry by ‘Tooth’.

In celebrating the values of diversity, harmony, equality, and resourcefulness, which help overcome barriers and connect our multicultural society, this shows Australia as a prime example.

By using the themes of connection, travel and belonging from East to West, this exhibition mirrors the impact of the original Silk Road, which connected people from various cultures. Themes that continue to celebrate the humanity within us.
